Indus Council on teaching of foreign language – A not for profit organisation registered with government of India is launching a series of dance workshops in India where the theme is “celebrating Languages through dance”.
The first ever day long workshop this winter is on Flamenco dance from Spain .it will be conducted by Ms Marta Sanchez, a world renowned Flamenco dancer who is in India to participate in Karan Johar’s show INDIA’S GOT TALENT to present a dance fusion of Kathakali & Flamenco.
What is Flamenco?
Flamenco is a Spanish art form made up of three parts guitar, song and dance. Flamenco originated from the southern region of Spain but is believed to be influenced by many world cultures including Latin America, Cuban and Jewish traditions and if we go back further into history , it is found that the roots of flamenco also lie in the Roma migration from Rajasthan, India between the 9th and 14th century. The popularity of Flamenco in the world can be gauged form the fact that there are more training institutes of Flamenco in Japan than in Spain.
